AFTER CARE GUIDANCE for MANICURE (Guidance for PEDICURE is below this)

Proper aftercare following a manicure is essential to maintain the longevity for you/your client’s manicure and the health of their nails and hands. Here are some important aftercare tips for you/your clients to follow:

1. Avoid water Immediately: For the first few hours after your manicure, avoid exposing your nails to water. This includes activities like washing dishes, taking long baths, or swimming. Water can cause the nail polish to lift or chip.

2. Use Cuticle Oil: Apply cuticle oil or a nourishing cuticle cream regularly, ideally every day. This helps keep your cuticles hydrated and prevents them from drying out and becoming overgrown.

3. Be Gentle: Be mindful of your nails for the first few hours after your manicure. Nail polish can take some time to fully harden, so avoid activities that may result in chipping or smudging.

4. Wear Gloves: When doing household chores that involve water or cleaning chemicals, wear gloves to protect your manicure and nails.

5. Moisturize: Keep your hands and nails well-moisturized by applying hand lotion or a nail-specific moisturizer regularly. This helps prevent dryness and maintains the health of your skin and nails.

6. Avoid Picking or Peeling: Refrain from picking, peeling, or biting your nails or the nail polish. These habits can damage the manicure and weaken your nails.

7. Use Non-Acetone Polish Remover: If you need to remove nail polish or make changes to your manicure, opt for a non-acetone nail polish remover. Acetone can be harsh on both your nails and the nail polish.

8. Nail File and Buffer: If you notice any rough edges or unevenness on your nails, use a nail file or buffer to gently smooth them out. Avoid filing too aggressively, as this can weaken the nails.

9. Regular Maintenance: Schedule regular touch-up appointments if you have a gel or acrylic manicure. These types of manicures may require professional maintenance to prevent lifting or chipping.

10. Nail Strengthener: Consider using a nail strengthener or nail hardener if you have weak or brittle nails. Consult with your manicurist for product recommendations.

11. Avoid Excessive Heat: Limit your exposure to excessive heat from hot showers, saunas, or heating devices, as it can weaken the nail polish.

12. Protect from UV Rays: If you have gel polish, be cautious about prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or UV rays, as it can cause the polish to deteriorate.

13. Maintain Healthy Habits: Eating a balanced diet rich in nutrients and staying hydrated can contribute to the health and strength of your nails.

14. Check for Signs of Infection: Keep an eye on your nails and the skin around them for any signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or pain. If you suspect an infection, consult a healthcare professional.

Remember that the longevity of your clients manicure can vary based on the type of polish used and your daily activities. By them following these aftercare tips, they can help extend the life of their manicure and enjoy beautifully groomed nails.

AFTER CARE GUIDANCE for PEDICURE

Aftercare following a pedicure is essential to maintain the results and keep your feet healthy. Here are some post-pedicure care tips:

1. Avoid Closed Shoes: After your pedicure, try to wear open-toed shoes or sandals for a few hours to allow your nail polish to dry completely without smudging.

2. Be Cautious When Walking: Be mindful of your freshly polished toenails, as they can be prone to smudging or chipping in the first few hours (normal nail polish). Take care when walking and avoid knocking your toes against objects.

3. Protect Your Toenails: Apply a clear topcoat to your toenails a day or two after your pedicure to help seal and protect the nail polish. You won’t need to do this if you have chosen Gel Nail Polish.

4. Moisturize: Keep your feet well-moisturized to prevent dryness and cracking. Use a foot cream or lotion regularly, especially after bathing. Avoid applying lotion between your toes, as excess moisture can lead to fungal growth.

5. Nail Growth: As your toenails grow, you may notice a gap between the cuticle and the polish.

6. Avoid Hot Water: In the first 24 hours after your pedicure, it’s best to avoid hot baths, hot tubs, or prolonged exposure to hot water, as it can cause the nail polish to lift.

7. Protect Your Toenails During Activities: If you engage in activities that could potentially damage your toenails, such as sports or gardening, consider wearing protective footwear.

8. Be Careful with Nail Polish Remover: If you decide to remove your nail polish, use an acetone-free nail polish remover to prevent excessive drying of the nails. Moisturize your nails and cuticles after removing the polish.

9. Maintain Good Foot Hygiene: Continue to practice good foot hygiene by washing your feet daily and drying them thoroughly, especially between the toes.

10. Regular Pedicures: To maintain the appearance of your feet and toenails, consider scheduling regular pedicure appointments, typically every 3 to 4 weeks, depending on the rate of nail growth.

11. Footwear Choice: Choose footwear that fits well and provides adequate support. Ill-fitting shoes can cause foot discomfort and negatively impact your pedicure.

12. Nail Health: Be aware of any changes in your toenails, such as discoloration, thickening, or signs of infection. If you notice any unusual changes, consult a therapist.

13. Sunscreen: If you’re planning to expose your feet to the sun, apply sunscreen to prevent sunburn.

Remember that proper aftercare not only helps maintain the appearance of your client’s pedicure but also promotes the overall health and well-being of their feet.
